What Does "Being a Member" Mean?

When we say “member,” what we really mean is that you are an actual, LEGAL OWNER of Fredericton Co-op. You are an owner because you buy SHARES in the Co-op.

Being a member means you have a say in how the Co-op runs and in its products and services.

You can have a say in many ways, including:

  1. 1. If you want to let us know something, you can use the suggestion boxes around the store. Anyone leaving a phone number will receive a call.
  2. You can speak to member service staff, or any one of our team members. They will be more than happy to help you!
  3. Attend the Annual General Membership Meeting held in January each year. At this meeting, each member has one vote. Regardless of whether you are a new member or have fulfilled your share capital requirement of $1,000, each and every member receives only one vote. That’s just our democratic way of doing things!
  4. Contact your President or any of the 12 directors, who are your voice on the Board. These volunteers work tirelessly on your behalf to make sure your Co-op continues to grow and flourish.
  5. Join a committee or run for a seat on the Board in order to become even more active in the governance of your Co-op.

Being a member means you know you are receiving products and services at fair prices.

Weekly price comparisons on actual members’ orders show that you save up to 10% on your grocery order in comparison to other local grocery retailers. Still more savings are realized when you make purchases in other departments.

Being a member means you care about your community.

Fredericton Co-op supports hundreds of local activities, fund raising efforts, and children’s activities and groups. It supports local businesses and local suppliers (such as our great local farmers!). In fact, Fredericton Co-op is the only locally owned full-service grocer/retailer in the city of Fredericton! And as a member, you are part of the community that we support.

This means that you can apply for our annual post-secondary scholarships and other bursaries that are only available to members!
